Chair Massage
By: Daniel J. Brownell
What is chair massage?
A common misconception is that chair massage is sitting in a vibrating chair at the local mall. A true chair
massage is per-formed by a licensed massage therapist utilizing a specially designed chair.
Chair massage is a brief massage
that is done through the clothing, lasting between 10 and
30 minutes. This is typically focused on the back, neck, shoulders and arms;
which are key areas of tension. David Palmer, who created this type of massage, originally called it "on-site massage" since the massage
chairs were portable and were usually brought into a work-place. It is also often referred to as seated massage.
Chair massage
is a great way to be introduced to professional massage. You get many of the same massage benefits received with a traditional table
massage without having to disrobe. The sessions are usually shorter, making it convenient for anyone to fit into their busy schedule.
Because seated massage sessions are shorter than table massage, the cost for a chair massage is relatively low. It's no wonder many
people are introduced to the wonderful world of massage through seated massage.
Chair massage is a great way to reduce stress, tension, and head-aches. It can also help decrease RSS (Repetitive Stress Syndrome)
such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Some companies and corporations have a chair massage program for the added benefit of reducing absenteeism
and increasing productivity. Even if your company does not have a Corporate Chair Massage Program, you can still come into our office
and receive a chair massage for as little as $20. Appointments aren’t necessary, although we recommend you call ahead to check availability.
